curious
Horses are such curious creatures. These two young beauties were particularly curious. I think they found me and my camera quite interesting.
Oh, how I wish I could own a horse again!

A while ago, when I was photographing Angie and Shane, this lovely chestnut mare peeked out of her door to see what was going on. She glanced over and inquired as to whether I might take a few photos of her. Well, I am quite partial to chestnut horses, having owned a chestnut thoroughbred gelding many years ago. So, I was very happy to oblige.
Don’t you just love the pink hanging things in her doorway?

Beautiful chestnut girl…come on over! And she did.

He’s so gorgeous, he deserves his own post. Here are some views of Shane.

Horses are magical. I love them. They are way more than those beautiful creatures you see grazing in the fields as you drive by in your car. Up close, they are still beautiful creatures, but their personalities are just as huge as they are. To be lucky enough to hang out in a barn with them on a gorgeous afternoon is really a blessing. It is a different world for sure. The sounds, sites and smells of horses are intoxicating.
Every horse is different. Some are frisky, some are hams, heck, some are boring! Not Shane, though…far from boring! Let’s just list the adjectives….Shane is gorgeous, silly, stubborn, loving, friendly, charismatic and did I mention, stubborn?
Together, Shane and Angie make a magical pair. It’s obvious, Shane loves Angie. When she moves, he moves; when she talks, he listens; and when she takes a step, so does he…sometimes he steps on her, but that’s a different story! Shane will certainly do what you ask him to, but if he isn’t happy about it, he lets you know. He’s just a little boy at heart. Getting him to pose was entertaining! If we made him stand too long he started stomping his foot and shaking his head. Angie would scold him, and he would ignore her. But, the coolest thing is that they are a team and it really shows.

Not intentional, I swear. It’s either a self portrait, or a fun game of “I Spy.”
Can you find me??

During part two of my session with Jackie and Casey, we headed into the barn so Jackie could give Casey a nice brushing. Horses…they just get so dusty!
There is nothing like spending time in a barn with a horse and his owner. To me, it is a beautiful, peaceful experience. Especially on that day. The sun was low in the sky and the air was fresh and crisp. Honestly, I could have stayed until dark!
Casey is quiet and calm. He doesn’t say much, but he seems to know a little more than he lets on. Like the fact that he looked really cool standing there in that gorgeous light. Like the fact that when I got the film back and saw the images I would immediatley fall in love with them. The texture, the light, and handsome Mr. Casey. Who could ask for more?
Oh, and I was playing around with some new photoshop brushes and created some special borders just for Casey!
