film in all of it’s beauty – and a funny tongue

I still love black and white film.  I still shoot black and white film.  I’ll never stop shooting black and white film.  They will have to fight it out of my hands (and my camera) if it ever comes to that.  One of the things I love about film is that you never really quite know what you are going to get.  Well, you have an idea, but by the time the film comes back it is such a nice surprise to see what you did in fact get.  Sometimes an image will come back that makes me go “oh…my…gosh!”  Such was the case with this image.  I shot this with EXPIRED Kodak tmax 3200.  Yes, I said expired.  I think it was “really” expired, too.  So, I had some fun with it, knowing that I would get some unexpected results – which I may like, or I may not.  But, that is the beauty of it!

Years ago I attended a Clay Blackmore (love him) seminar where he said that he sometimes intentionally puts some of his film through the scanner at the airport to see what kind of crazy results he gets when shooting with it after it has been exposed to the xray radiation.  Since, I don’t really travel much, I settle for the next best thing – shooting with expired film!

So, before you throw your expired film in the trash, throw it in your camera and go have some fun!  You might just be pleasantly surprised with the results!

Thanks, Mackenzie for your tongue!

Have you ever developed your own film?
I learned to do it in college and did all my own work for the yearbook….
    It’s not hard at all!
    I like you’d love it!
